The cartridge valve is used to switch backflushable double filters from their operational setting (filter mode) to their backflushing setting. How the valve is activated depends on the filter model: either manually, or automatically using an electromagnetic pilot valve (double solenoid valve). When the valve is activated, the flow of fluid in the double filter is diverted so that one of the filter elements is backflushed with the fluid cleaned by the second filter element. At the same time as the backflushing, the valve opens the separate backflushing outlet on the double filter for the applicable filter element, and the contamination from the backflush filter is drained out.
